The resort strip along Varadero's long white beach is flat and manageable, most hotel grounds are stroller-friendly. Outside the resorts, roads and pavements are basic, so day trips are best arranged through hotel tour desks rather than independent wandering. Bring a carrier as backup for uneven ground.

🍽️Food & Eating

All-inclusive resorts are the main way most families experience Varadero, with kids' buffets and high chairs standard, though food variety can be more limited than at comparable resorts elsewhere due to Cuba's supply constraints. Pack some familiar snacks for picky eaters. Bottled water is provided at resorts and is the safer choice throughout.

🛡️Safety

The resort zone is calm, secure, and geared entirely toward tourism, feeling comfortable for families who mostly stay on-property. As with Havana, the bigger challenges are practical rather than safety-related: patchy internet, cash-based transactions, and occasional shortages. US-issued cards don't work due to sanctions, so bring cash or a card from elsewhere.

🏥Hospitals

Varadero International Clinic serves the resort area and is used to treating tourists, with English-speaking staff for routine issues. Mandatory Cuban travel health insurance covers basic care, but bring any regular medications, as pharmacy stock is unpredictable. For anything serious, evacuation to Havana or home is the standard plan.
