🚼Pram

San Jose itself is not a primary tourist destination: most families use it as a gateway to the country's national parks and beach resorts. A carrier is more practical than a pram for jungle trails and rural areas. The Arenal volcano region, Manuel Antonio, and the Osa Peninsula have some flat resort areas where prams work.

🍽️Food & Eating

Costa Rican food is mild and toddler-friendly: gallo pinto (rice and beans), plantains, fresh tropical fruit, and simple grilled chicken are universally available. Family sodas (local restaurants) are relaxed and welcoming to children.

🛡️Safety

Generally safe in resort areas and national parks with a guide. San Jose city centre has higher crime than rural areas: avoid walking at night and use taxis or Uber. Wildlife encounters (monkeys, snakes, insects) require supervision of young children at all times.

🏥Hospitals

Hospital CIMA San Jose and Clinica Biblica are the main private hospitals with English-speaking staff for tourists. Medical care quality drops significantly outside San Jose: having travel insurance with air evacuation cover is essential for remote areas.
