Tamarindo's roads are a mix of paved and unpaved surfaces, and beach access is generally sandy, so a jogging stroller or carrier works better than a standard one. The town center is compact and walkable, though there's no real sidewalk infrastructure in places. Many families rent a car to reach nearby beaches and attractions like Las Baulas National Park.

The town has a huge range of family-friendly restaurants, from casual sodas (local diners) serving rice, beans, and plantain to beachfront spots with kids' menus and high chairs. Fresh fruit smoothies and ceviche are local specialties, with milder options available for younger palates. Tap water is generally safe in Tamarindo, though many visitors still opt for bottled water.

Tamarindo is a well-established, tourist-friendly beach town with a relaxed atmosphere, though rip currents on the main beach are a real hazard, swim only in flagged safe areas and keep a close eye on toddlers in the water. Petty theft from cars and unattended bags on the beach happens occasionally. Sun and heat are the most common practical issue, sunscreen and shade breaks are essential.

🏥Hospitals

The nearest major hospital is Hospital La Anexion in Nicoya, about an hour away, but Tamarindo has several private clinics equipped for common tourist ailments and minor emergencies. Pharmacies in town are well-stocked with standard medicines. Comprehensive travel insurance is worth having given the distance to full-service hospitals.
