Nuku'alofa's central streets around the waterfront and Royal Palace are reasonably flat, but pavements are inconsistent and disappear quickly outside the town center. Most families do fine with a compact stroller for the capital and switch to carrying kids for beach and reef visits.

Restaurants in town are simple and welcoming to children, though menus are limited outside a handful of resort dining rooms. The Talamahu Market sells good, cheap local produce, and Fresh West supermarket has a basic range of imported baby staples.

Tonga is calm and family-friendly with very low crime, and locals are warm toward travelling kids. Cyclone season runs November through April, and swimming should be kept to sheltered lagoon spots since many beaches lack lifeguards.

Vaiola Hospital in Nuku'alofa covers routine and emergency care but has limited specialist services, so serious cases are typically referred to New Zealand or Fiji. Pack a well-stocked first aid kit and any prescription medication, since pharmacy supplies can be inconsistent.
