Rarotonga has one coastal ring road circling the island, with a mix of paved footpaths near Avarua town and grassy, sandy resort grounds elsewhere, so a lightweight stroller for the road and a carrier for beach access both earn their keep. Most family resorts are low rise with flat, easy grounds.

🍽️Food & Eating

Resorts and the small main town of Avarua offer casual island dining with high chairs, and the Saturday Punanga Nui Market in Avarua is a fun, relaxed family outing with local food stalls. Options thin out compared to a big city, so most families eat at or near their resort.

🛡️Safety

A very safe, relaxed island with minimal crime. The lagoon is shallow and reef protected in most spots, making it genuinely toddler friendly for paddling, though reef shoes are worth packing for sharp coral underfoot.

🏥Hospitals

Rarotonga Hospital in Avarua is the only hospital on the island and handles routine and emergency care, though serious cases may require medical evacuation to New Zealand. Pack any regular medications, as pharmacy stock is more limited than on the mainland.
