Parent Tips

🚼Pram

Anse Vata and Baie des Citrons, the main family beach strips, have wide flat promenades that are genuinely stroller-friendly, one of the better setups in the South Pacific. The older downtown streets near the market are hillier and less consistent.

🍽️Food & Eating

Noumea has a strong French-Pacific food scene, and bistros around Baie des Citrons are used to families with kids, with high chairs and simple menus for children. Supermarkets like Casino stock familiar French baby food brands, which makes self-catering easy.

πŸ›‘οΈSafety

New Caledonia is one of the calmer, safer Pacific destinations, though petty theft from cars and unlocked hotel rooms does happen. Strong UV and jellyfish in stinger season (November to April) are the main things to plan swimming around.

πŸ₯Hospitals

CHT Gaston-Bourret in Noumea is a well-equipped French-standard hospital with a pediatric unit, one of the better medical facilities in the region. Pharmacies are plentiful and stock the same brands you'd find in mainland France.
