The Esplanade and Smith Street Mall in the CBD are flat, wide, and easy going, and the Waterfront precinct has smooth paths connecting the wave pool and lagoon. Footpaths thin out in older suburbs, so sticking to the city centre and Waterfront keeps things easiest.

🍽️Food & Eating

Mindil Beach Sunset Market (dry season only) is a huge hit with kids for its food stalls and open space, and the Waterfront precinct has family friendly casual dining with high chairs. Darwin's food scene leans casual and outdoorsy, so fussy eaters are well catered for.

🛡️Safety

Darwin is generally safe, but swimming is restricted to the netted Waterfront lagoon and wave pool rather than the ocean or rivers, because of crocodiles and marine stingers. The dry season (May to October) is far more comfortable and less humid than the wet season, when monsoon storms and stifling humidity make toddler travel harder.

🏥Hospitals

Royal Darwin Hospital is the region's major public hospital with a paediatric emergency department, and private GP clinics in the CBD can handle minor issues. Pharmacies are easy to find in the Smith Street Mall and Casuarina shopping areas.
