Parent Tips

🚼Pram

El Poblado and Laureles neighbourhoods have reasonable footpaths for prams. The famous Metro cable cars and metro system are modern and accessible. Steep hillside barrios (the city sits in a valley) mean carriers are essential for exploring beyond the flat tourist zones.

🍽️Food & Eating

Colombian food is varied, flavourful, and affordable. Bandeja paisa, arepas, and fresh tropical fruit are easy toddler choices. El Poblado's cafe and restaurant scene caters well to families with international tastes.

🛡️Safety

Medellin has transformed dramatically from its troubled past but still requires common-sense precautions. El Poblado and Envigado are genuinely safe for tourist families. Avoid travelling outside these areas at night and always use InDriver or Uber rather than street taxis.

🏥Hospitals

Clínica del Country and Clínica Medellín are the best private options with some English-speaking staff. For serious paediatric cases, Hospital San Vicente Fundación is the main public referral centre. Travel insurance with evacuation cover is advisable.
