Florianopolis is spread across a hilly island, so decide your base carefully: the Lagoa da Conceicao and Jurere Internacional areas have flatter, more stroller friendly stretches than the older hillside neighborhoods. Beach access often means sand or boardwalks, so a lightweight stroller you can carry works better than a bulky one. Ubers and taxis are affordable and useful for hopping between beaches with a sleeping toddler.

🍽️Food & Eating

Beachside kiosks and per-kilo buffet restaurants (comida a peso) are everywhere and let you build a plate exactly to a toddler's taste without a language barrier. Seafood is the local specialty, especially oysters farmed in the lagoon, but most restaurants also serve simple rice, beans, and grilled chicken. Highchairs are standard at family-oriented restaurants in Jurere and Lagoa, less so at small hillside eateries.

🛡️Safety

Florianopolis is generally considered one of Brazil's safer cities, but standard precautions still apply: avoid flashing phones and jewelry, and stick to well-populated beach areas after dark. Strong currents affect some ocean beaches (Joaquina and Mole are surf beaches, not ideal for toddlers), so choose calmer bay beaches like Jurere or Canasvieiras for young kids. Tap water is generally treated but most families stick to bottled water.

🏥Hospitals

Hospital Baia Sul and Hospital Unimed Grande Florianopolis are well-regarded private hospitals with pediatric care, though English-speaking staff can be limited outside the front desk. Pharmacies (farmacias) are plentiful and stock familiar brands of children's medicine and diapers. Travel insurance that covers private care is worth having, since public wait times can be long.
