The walled Old Town's cobblestones and narrow, crowded streets make strollers cumbersome, a carrier works much better for exploring there. The newer Bocagrande beach strip has flatter pavements and is easier to navigate with wheels. Heat and humidity are intense year-round, so plan outdoor time for morning or late afternoon.

🍽️Food & Eating

Fruit vendors selling mango, pineapple, and coconut water are everywhere and make easy, healthy toddler snacks. Restaurants in the Old Town and Getsemani are used to tourist families and typically offer rice, plantain, and grilled chicken that kids take to easily. High chairs are common at sit-down restaurants but less so at street stalls.

🛡️Safety

The Old Town and Bocagrande are heavily touristed and generally safe during the day, with visible police patrols, though petty theft can occur in crowded areas so keep bags close. Heat exhaustion is a bigger practical risk than crime for toddlers, carry water and sun protection at all times. Some outer neighborhoods are best avoided, stick to recommended tourist zones.

🏥Hospitals

Hospital Bocagrande and Clinica Madre Bernarda both have emergency departments used to treating tourists, with some English-speaking staff. Pharmacies (Farmatodo, La Rebaja) are widely available for everyday needs like fever medicine and sunscreen. Heat and mosquito-related issues (rehydration, bite treatment) are the most common reasons families need care.
