Parent Tips

🚼Pram

Windhoek's city center and Klein Windhoek have decent pavements and are manageable with a stroller, but Namibia is fundamentally a self-drive destination, and most of the trip beyond the capital happens by car with a car seat rather than on foot. Malls like Maerua and Wernhil are fully stroller-friendly.

🍽️Food & Eating

German colonial heritage means Windhoek has good bakeries and family-friendly restaurants with simple, familiar food like sausages, schnitzel, and pizza. Supermarkets like Checkers and Spar are well stocked for self-catering families heading out on longer desert road trips.

πŸ›‘οΈSafety

Windhoek itself is one of the safer capital cities in the region, though normal city precautions apply around the bus station and after dark. The bigger consideration for families is the sun and heat on long self-drive days, along with Namibia's vast distances between fuel and services.

πŸ₯Hospitals

Lady Pohamba Private Hospital and Medi-Clinic Windhoek both have English-speaking doctors and good pediatric care, among the best in the region. Outside Windhoek, medical facilities are sparse, so it's worth confirming what's available near remote lodges.
