Valletta is a compact, hilly fortress city built on a grid of steep streets and stone steps, which makes a stroller genuinely hard work, a carrier is the more practical choice for the old town. The Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens are flatter, shaded, and have great harbour views that are easy with a pram. A short ferry ride connects Valletta to Sliema and the Three Cities, which are flatter and easier going.

🍽️Food & Eating

English is an official language, so ordering and explaining allergies or preferences for kids is never a barrier. Restaurants around Republic Street and the waterfront are used to tourist families and generally offer high chairs. Pastizzi (savoury pastries) from local bakeries are a cheap, easy snack most toddlers enjoy.

🛡️Safety

Malta is one of the safer destinations in the Mediterranean, with low crime and a strong tourism infrastructure. Tap water is technically safe but has a strong taste due to desalination, so most families and locals drink bottled or filtered water. Summer heat is intense, so shoulder-season travel is more comfortable with a toddler.

🏥Hospitals

Mater Dei Hospital, just outside Valletta, is Malta's main public hospital with a pediatric department and English-speaking staff throughout, since English is an official language. Pharmacies are easy to find around the main shopping streets.
