Parent Tips

🚼Pram

The Hague is calmer and greener than Amsterdam, with wide streets around the Binnenhof and Lange Voorhout that are easy for a stroller. Scheveningen beach, a short tram ride away, has a long boardwalk that's fully pram-friendly and a genuine hit with toddlers. Trams are the easiest way around and most stops are step-free.

🍽️Food & Eating

Restaurants in the city centre and around Plein square are used to families, with high chairs and simple menus for kids widely available. Scheveningen's beachfront has plenty of casual, family-friendly seafood and snack options. Dutch fries (patat) with a range of sauces are a safe bet for fussy eaters.

πŸ›‘οΈSafety

One of the calmer, safer Dutch cities, home to the international courts and many diplomatic families, with low crime overall. Tap water is safe to drink. As elsewhere in the Netherlands, the main everyday caution is bike traffic rather than crime.

πŸ₯Hospitals

HMC (Haaglanden Medisch Centrum) has a pediatric emergency department and English-speaking staff. Pharmacies are common in the central shopping streets and near Scheveningen.
