Sarande's seafront promenade is flat, wide, and stroller-friendly, running the length of the bay with cafes and shaded benches. Move away from the waterfront, though, and the town is hilly with steps and uneven lanes, especially in the older streets climbing the hillside, so a carrier is genuinely useful here. Many of the nicer beaches along the Albanian Riviera involve steps down from the coast road.

🍽️Food & Eating

Fresh seafood, grilled fish, and Greek-influenced dishes (thanks to the nearby border and large Greek-speaking community) dominate menus, and most beachfront restaurants are used to families with young kids. Portions of plain grilled chicken or pasta are easy to request even off-menu. Small markets sell basics, but the selection of specific baby food brands is more limited than in Tirana, so stock up before travelling if your toddler is picky.

🛡️Safety

Sarande is relaxed and safe, with the sea and steep drop-offs at some viewpoints the main things to watch with toddlers rather than crime. Tap water isn't recommended for drinking, but bottled water is cheap and everywhere. The coast road can be busy with rental cars and scooters in peak summer, so keep a close hand near unmarked crossings.

🏥Hospitals

Sarande's regional hospital handles routine issues but has limited English and equipment, so for anything serious most expats and tour operators recommend the ferry to Corfu, Greece (about 30 to 60 minutes) or the American Hospital in Tirana, roughly 3 to 4 hours by road. Pharmacies in town can help with minor ailments and are easy to find along the main street.
