Parent Tips

🚼Pram

Pokhara is flatter and calmer than Kathmandu, and the lakeside promenade along Phewa Lake is smooth enough for a lightweight stroller. Once you head into the old bazaar or up toward viewpoints, expect steps and dirt paths, so a carrier is still worth packing as backup.

🍽️Food & Eating

Lakeside is full of relaxed cafes serving pizza, pasta, and pancakes alongside Nepali staples, making it easy to find something a toddler will eat. As in Kathmandu, stick to bottled water and freshly cooked food, and be cautious with dairy and ice from unknown sources.

πŸ›‘οΈSafety

Pokhara feels noticeably calmer and less polluted than Kathmandu, with quieter roads around the lakeside tourist strip. The main risks are boat safety on Phewa Lake (life jackets aren't always toddler-sized, so bring your own if possible) and sun exposure at altitude.

πŸ₯Hospitals

Manipal Teaching Hospital is the main referral hospital in Pokhara and handles most emergencies reasonably well, though it's less equipped than Kathmandu's private hospitals. For anything beyond routine care, families typically fly to Kathmandu or on to Bangkok.
