Skip the stroller for central Kathmandu: Thamel and Durbar Square have broken pavements, open drains, and constant motorbike traffic. A structured baby carrier works far better for temples, markets, and narrow alleys. Some newer hotels and the Garden of Dreams have smoother paths if you do bring one.

🍽️Food & Eating

Momos, dal bhat, and Newari thali are toddler-friendly staples, and most tourist restaurants in Thamel cater to Western tastes with plain rice or noodles on request. Stick to bottled or filtered water, avoid raw salads and street ice, and choose busy restaurants with high turnover for freshest food.

🛡️Safety

Kathmandu is generally safe from violent crime, but air pollution (worse Nov to Mar in the evenings) and heavy traffic without sidewalks are the real hazards for toddlers. The valley sits around 1,400m, which rarely affects young kids but can cause mild fatigue or appetite loss for a day or two.

🏥Hospitals

CIWEC Hospital and Grande International Hospital in Kathmandu are the go-to choices for expats and tourists, both with English-speaking doctors and pediatric care. Norvic International Hospital is another reliable option for urgent issues; for anything serious, evacuation to Bangkok or Delhi is standard practice.
