Lucerne's Old Town is compact and largely flat, and the famous Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrucke) is wide, wooden and stroller-friendly, though busy with tourists midday. Lakeside promenades along Lake Lucerne make for easy, scenic strolling without any real hills to contend with.

🍽️Food & Eating

Lakeside restaurants cater well to families, with terraces where a wandering toddler is not a big deal, and many serve simplified versions of rosti or pasta for kids. Swiss chocolate shops around the Old Town make for an easy, reliable treat stop when energy is flagging.

🛡️Safety

Lucerne is a small, tidy city with very low crime, and the pedestrianised Old Town feels safe to wander with young children. Tap water is safe and tastes excellent, drawn from the surrounding alpine catchment. The lake itself is the main thing to supervise closely if you're near the water's edge.

🏥Hospitals

Luzerner Kantonsspital is the region's main hospital with a pediatric unit and experience treating international visitors. Pharmacies around the Old Town can handle minor issues like fevers or rashes without an appointment. English is reasonably common among younger staff, though German is still the default first language.
