Salamanca Market on Saturdays is a great family outing with a huge range of fresh produce and casual food stalls. Hobart's dining scene has grown considerably and most restaurants in the city center are used to families with high chairs on hand. Tasmanian produce, especially seafood and dairy, is excellent and generally mild enough for toddlers.

Hobart is a very safe, low-key city well suited to family travel, with minimal crime concerns in the areas visitors frequent. Tasmania's weather can shift quickly even in summer, so pack layers and waterproofs regardless of the forecast. Standard water safety applies around the harbor and docks given the working waterfront.
