Havana's streets are a mix of grand but crumbling colonial pavements, potholes, and missing curbs, genuinely difficult terrain for a stroller. Most families do better with a sturdy carrier, especially in Habana Vieja's cobblestone lanes. Modern strollers (and spare parts) aren't available locally, so bring everything you'll need.

🍽️Food & Eating

Paladares (private restaurants) are increasingly used to tourists and often flexible with kids, offering rice, beans, and simple grilled options. Food supply can be inconsistent due to shortages, so pack some familiar snacks as backup, especially for fussy eaters. Bottled water is essential, tap water isn't safe to drink.

🛡️Safety

Havana has low rates of violent crime and feels safe to walk in tourist areas, though petty theft and scams targeting tourists do occur. The bigger challenges are practical: unreliable infrastructure, power cuts, and limited internet access can complicate a trip with young kids. Cash (and increasingly, pre-loaded cards) is essential since US cards don't work due to sanctions.

🏥Hospitals

Cira Garcia Clinic is the main hospital for foreigners, with English-speaking staff, though medicine and supply shortages mean it's wise to bring any regular medications and a well-stocked first aid kit. Travel health insurance covering Cuba specifically is mandatory for entry. Pharmacies exist but often have limited stock, so don't rely on finding specific items locally.
