Fukuoka is famous for Hakata ramen and yatai street-food stalls, but the yatai themselves are cramped counter seating that isn't practical with toddlers. Family restaurants, ramen chains with table seating, and department store food courts are the better bet for meals with young kids.

Fukuoka is calm and safe with low crime and safe tap water. It sits close to the coast, so typhoon season (Aug-Sep) can bring heavy rain and travel disruption, and summer humidity is intense, so plan indoor time at the science museum or aquarium during the hottest hours.

Kyushu University Hospital and Fukuoka University Hospital provide solid pediatric care, and Fukuoka's sizeable international resident population means slightly better English support than in similarly sized regional cities.
