The compact city centre (the Octagon) and the Botanic Garden have flat, easy paths, but Dunedin has some notably steep streets (Baldwin Street, the world's steepest) so plan routes around the flatter central grid. St Clair and St Kilda beach esplanades are flat and pram friendly.

🍽️Food & Eating

A university city with a good range of relaxed, casual cafes in the Octagon and George Street, most with high chairs. Supermarkets are conveniently central.

🛡️Safety

A safe, low crime city. Dunedin's weather is cooler and more changeable than the North Island, even in summer, so pack layers, and its beaches can have strong currents better suited to paddling than deep swimming with toddlers.

🏥Hospitals

Dunedin Hospital is a major South Island teaching hospital with full emergency and paediatric services. Pharmacies are widely available across the compact city centre.
