The main tourist areas (the Loop, Lincoln Park, Navy Pier, Museum Campus) are well patrolled and safe, though like any major US city some neighborhoods further out warrant more caution. Summers are warm and pleasant; winters are bitterly cold, so this is very much a summer trip with toddlers.

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital is a top-ranked paediatric hospital right in the city, and urgent care clinics are widespread downtown.
