Parent Tips

🚼Pram

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, the city's biggest family draw, has paved paths throughout and rents strollers on site. The central Kuanzhai Alley and Jinli Street old towns are flat but can get crowded, so mornings are easier going.

🍽️Food & Eating

Sichuan cuisine is famously spicy, so it's worth learning to say 'bu la' (not spicy) when ordering, or sticking to plain rice, noodles, and dumplings for toddlers. Hotpot restaurants often have a mild broth option, and malls around Chunxi Road have familiar chains with high chairs.

πŸ›‘οΈSafety

Chengdu is a relaxed, safe city with a slower pace than Shanghai or Beijing. Air quality can dip in winter, so it's worth checking before outdoor panda-base days, and as elsewhere in mainland China, a VPN is needed for Google services.

πŸ₯Hospitals

Global Doctor Chengdu Clinic offers English-speaking care for everyday issues and is used to treating tourists. West China Hospital is one of the country's largest and best equipped for anything serious, though English support is limited.
