Central Brussels is a mix of grand boulevards and old cobbled squares like the Grand Place, which look better than they push. Parc du Cinquantenaire and the area around the Atomium and Mini-Europe are much easier going, with wide paved paths built for families. The metro has lifts at most but not all stations, so it's worth checking the specific stop in advance.

🍽️Food & Eating

Belgians are relaxed about children in restaurants, and frites stands and waffle shops are an easy, cheap way to keep a toddler happy between sights. Chain restaurants and brasseries around Sainte-Catherine and the EU Quarter have high chairs and kids' menus as standard. Tap water is safe, though Belgians often order bottled water as a cultural habit rather than necessity.

🛡️Safety

Brussels is generally safe for families but has more pickpocketing and petty theft around major tourist sites and train stations than in the Nordic capitals, so normal city-centre awareness applies. Tap water is safe to drink throughout. The EU Quarter can feel quiet and less lively outside office hours.

🏥Hospitals

Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc and UZ Brussel both have pediatric emergency departments and staff who speak English alongside French and Dutch. Pharmacies (marked with a green cross) are common throughout the city centre.
