Bruges' fairy-tale centre is almost entirely cobblestone, which makes for slow, bumpy going with a standard stroller, a carrier is genuinely the better choice for the old town. The canal-side paths and Minnewater park (the 'Lake of Love') are flatter and more forgiving. The city is small enough that most family sights are within a 20-minute walk of each other.

🍽️Food & Eating

Chocolate shops and waffle stands are everywhere and an easy way to keep young kids motivated between stops, and family restaurants around the Markt square generally have high chairs. It's a compact, walkable city so there's rarely a need to go far to find a toddler-friendly meal. Belgian fries (frites) with mayo are a reliable win with fussy eaters.

🛡️Safety

Bruges is one of the safest and calmest towns in Belgium, with very low crime and a relaxed, pedestrianised centre. Tap water is safe throughout. The main hazard for a toddler is the canal edges in the old town, which mostly lack barriers, so hands-on supervision matters near the water.

🏥Hospitals

AZ Sint-Jan Brugge is the main hospital and has a pediatric department, with English spoken by most medical staff. Pharmacies are dotted around the Markt and main shopping streets for everyday needs.
