Ponta Delgada's historic centre has decent flat, paved streets, but the islands' biggest draws, the Sete Cidades crater lakes and volcanic trails, involve steep, unpaved paths that are not stroller territory. A car seat and a sturdy hiking carrier are far more useful here than a stroller for most of the trip.

🍽️Food & Eating

Restaurants across the islands are casual and family-friendly, with fresh fish, local cheese and simple grilled meat that toddlers usually accept without fuss. Portuguese-style bread and pastries are widely available for easy snacking on the go.

🛡️Safety

The Azores are extremely safe with very low crime, and the pace of life is unhurried even in the main town. Tap water is safe to drink. Weather can change fast on these volcanic islands, so pack layers and keep an eye on cliff edges and crater viewpoints with young children.

🏥Hospitals

Hospital do Divino Espirito Santo in Ponta Delgada is the main hospital serving the islands, with more limited facilities on the smaller outer islands. English is spoken by some staff but not guaranteed, so a translation app is a sensible backup. Pharmacies are available in the main towns for everyday needs.
