Rovaniemi is built for snow, not strollers: from November through March the ground is packed ice and snow, and local families use sledges or carriers instead. Santa Claus Village itself has cleared, salted walkways that are manageable, but a proper all-weather buggy or a carrier is the practical choice. Summer visits (Jun-Aug) are much easier for wheels, with flat paths and the midnight sun for long days out.

🍽️Food & Eating

Santa Claus Village and central Rovaniemi have family restaurants well used to tourists and toddlers, with reindeer, salmon soup, and simple pasta options on most menus. Arktikum and the main shopping streets have cafes with high chairs. Groceries (K-Market, S-Market) are the budget-friendly option for breakfasts and snacks in an apartment.

🛡️Safety

An extremely safe, small city with very low crime. The real risk factor is cold: temperatures regularly drop below -15C in midwinter, and proper snowsuits, mittens and thermal layers for a toddler aren't optional. Daylight is very limited around the winter solstice (a few hours or less), which affects nap and activity schedules.

🏥Hospitals

Lapland Central Hospital in Rovaniemi is the main regional hospital with a children's ward and generally good English among younger staff. Pharmacies are in the town centre and well stocked, though it is worth packing a basic first-aid and fever kit given how remote the region is.
