Aarhus is compact, flat and cyclist-friendly, which usually means smooth pavements too, though the colourful old street of Molllestien is narrow cobblestone and better on foot. Den Gamle By open-air museum and the ARoS art museum both have step-free access and are genuinely enjoyable with young kids. The harbourfront and Aarhus O district are new, wide and very pram-friendly.

🍽️Food & Eating

Danish cafes are used to families, and high chairs are standard in most restaurants around the Latin Quarter and the food hall Aarhus Street Food, which has enough variety to suit fussy eaters. Danish pastries (wienerbrod) and open sandwiches (smorrebrod) are easy wins for a quick lunch. Supermarkets like Netto and Fotex are convenient for self-catering.

🛡️Safety

A calm, low-crime university city with a strong culture of children cycling and playing independently. Tap water is safe to drink everywhere. The main practical issue is the large number of cyclists, so keep toddlers close near bike lanes and shared paths.

🏥Hospitals

Aarhus University Hospital is one of Denmark's largest hospitals with an excellent pediatric department, and English is very widely spoken by staff. Pharmacies are easy to find in the central shopping streets.
