Parent Tips

🚼Pram

Zurich is one of the easiest European capitals to push a stroller through: trams and trains have low-floor step-free access, pavements are wide and smooth, and lakeside paths around Zurichsee run for miles without a curb in sight. The steep lanes of the Altstadt near the Lindenhof are the only patches worth detouring around.

🍽️Food & Eating

Restaurants across the city are relaxed about kids, and many mid-range spots have high chairs and half-portion menus without being asked. Migros and Coop supermarkets have excellent, affordable prepared toddler food, and the lakeside kiosks are handy for a quick ice cream break between sights.

πŸ›‘οΈSafety

Zurich regularly ranks among the safest cities in the world, with very low crime and a strong culture of looking out for children in public. Tap water is safe, and in fact often drawn straight from public fountains around the city. The main thing to plan for is cost control rather than safety, since prices here are notably high.

πŸ₯Hospitals

Kinderspital Zurich (University Children's Hospital Zurich) is one of Europe's best-regarded pediatric hospitals and is well set up for international visitors. Universitatsspital Zurich handles broader emergencies. English is widely spoken by medical staff, and pharmacies (Apotheke) are easy to find in every neighbourhood.
