Central Athens is a mixed bag: wide pavements around Syntagma Square and most metro stations (which have elevators) work well, but the Plaka and the paths up to the Acropolis are steep, cobbled, and stepped, so a carrier is more practical for that part of the visit. Ride the metro to Akropoli station and plan to carry the stroller for the last stretch up.

🍽️Food & Eating

Tavernas are genuinely relaxed about kids, and most in neighborhoods like Plaka and Koukaki will bring bread, fries, and yogurt without being asked. Souvlaki and gyro spots are fast, cheap, and toddler-friendly for a quick meal between sights. Tap water is safe to drink, which makes self-catering easier if you have an apartment rental.

🛡️Safety

Athens is generally safe for families, with the main hazards being assertive traffic (hold hands firmly near crossings) and pickpocketing in crowded tourist spots like Monastiraki. Summer heat from June through August can be intense for toddlers, so plan outdoor sightseeing for morning or early evening.

🏥Hospitals

Mitera Children's Hospital and the pediatric department at Iaso Children's Hospital both have staff used to treating foreign families, though English fluency varies by department. Pharmacies, marked with a green cross, are plentiful and pharmacists can usually help with minor issues like fevers or diaper rash without a doctor's visit.
