As the birthplace of Cantonese cuisine, Guangzhou has endless mild options like congee, steamed rice rolls, and dim sum that toddlers generally love. Family restaurants and malls have high chairs, and convenience stores are everywhere, though English menus are less common than in Shanghai.

Guangzhou is safe with low crime, though it's a huge, fast-moving city so keep a close hold on kids in crowded markets and subway stations. As elsewhere on the mainland, a VPN and offline maps are worth setting up before you arrive since Google services are blocked.

Guangzhou United Family Healthcare and Guangdong Women and Children Hospital both offer solid pediatric care. English fluency among staff is more limited than in Shanghai or Beijing, so an international clinic is the easier choice for tourists.
