Parent Tips

🚼Pram

The Forbidden City and Summer Palace have long paved courtyards that work with a stroller, but expect thresholds, steps at gateways, and huge distances between sights, so budget extra time. The Great Wall sections at Mutianyu have a cable car up, but the wall itself is steep and stepped, so a carrier is essential there.

🍽️Food & Eating

Hotel restaurants and malls around Sanlitun and Wangfujing have high chairs and kids' menus, and simple noodle or dumpling dishes are easy to find mild. As in the rest of mainland China, Google services need a VPN, and mobile payment apps (Alipay, WeChat Pay) are far more useful day to day than cash or cards.

πŸ›‘οΈSafety

Beijing is very safe from a crime perspective, but distances between attractions are large and winter air quality can be poor, which is worth checking before outdoor days with a toddler. Traffic is heavy, so use marked crossings and hold hands near busy roads.

πŸ₯Hospitals

Beijing United Family Hospital has English-speaking pediatricians and is the go-to for international visitors. Public hospitals like Beijing Children's Hospital offer excellent specialist care but with far less English support.
