Parent Tips

🚼Pram

Las Palmas has a long, flat beachfront promenade (Las Canteras) that's excellent for strollers, and the southern resort of Maspalomas is similarly flat and well paved. The famous sand dunes themselves are, unsurprisingly, not stroller-friendly, so bring a carrier for that part of the visit.

🍽️Food & Eating

Resort areas in Maspalomas and Puerto Rico are full of international restaurants with kids' menus and high chairs. Las Palmas offers more authentic Canarian tapas bars, some of which are casual and welcoming to children. Supermarkets carry standard baby food and formula.

πŸ›‘οΈSafety

Gran Canaria is a safe, well-developed island with low crime in tourist areas. Tap water is safe but often chlorinated-tasting, so bottled water is common. Sun protection matters year-round given the strong subtropical sun, and swimming is safest at lifeguarded beaches like Las Canteras or Playa del Ingles.

πŸ₯Hospitals

Complejo Hospitalario Universitario Insular Materno-Infantil in Las Palmas includes a dedicated maternal and children's hospital, one of the best pediatric facilities in the Canaries. Private clinics near the southern resorts are quicker for minor complaints and used to tourists.
