The Galle Fort ramparts and cobbled lanes are atmospheric but uneven, so a stroller works for short stretches while a carrier handles the rest. The fort itself is compact and car-free in the core, making it genuinely pleasant to explore on foot with kids.

🍽️Food & Eating

Boutique cafes inside the Fort cater well to Western tastes and toddlers, with milder rice and curry options and fresh seafood available plain grilled. High chairs are common at the tourist-oriented restaurants, less so at local eateries outside the walls.

🛡️Safety

Galle Fort is calm, walkable, and low-crime, popular with families for exactly that reason. Nearby beaches like Unawatuna are good for paddling but check for currents, and whale watching trips from Mirissa involve open water better suited to older toddlers.

🏥Hospitals

Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, just outside Galle, handles serious cases, while many boutique hotels in the Fort keep a doctor on call for everyday issues. For anything major, Colombo is about 2 to 2.5 hours away by the expressway.
