Faro's old town and marina are flat and manageable, but the region's real draw is its resort towns like Vilamoura and Albufeira, which have wide, paved promenades built for tourism and stroller-friendly boardwalks down to the beach. Some cliff-top paths near Lagos and Ponta da Piedade involve stairs, so check routes ahead for those.

The Algarve is extremely family-oriented, with beachfront restaurants offering high chairs, kids' menus and simple grilled chicken or fish that toddlers generally enjoy. Supermarkets like Pingo Doce and Continente are well stocked for self-catering in the many family-friendly apartments and villas in the region.

🛡️Safety

The Algarve is one of Portugal's safest regions, with low crime and a well-established tourist infrastructure. Tap water is safe to drink throughout. The main things to watch are strong currents at some open Atlantic beaches (look for lifeguard flags) and intense midday sun in July and August.

Hospital de Faro is the region's main hospital with an emergency department used to treating tourists, and private clinics like HPA Health Group in Alvor and Gambelas have English-speaking staff geared toward international visitors. Pharmacies are easy to find in every resort town for everyday needs.
