Resort strips in Chania, Rethymno, and Hersonissos have paved promenades that are easy with a stroller, but the old Venetian quarters of Chania and Rethymno are cobbled with narrow lanes, so expect to fold it up for an hour of wandering there. Renting a car is worth it on Crete since the island is large and attractions are spread out.

🍽️Food & Eating

Tavernas across the island are relaxed with children, often with a shaded terrace and a simple grilled chicken or pasta option even if it's not on the printed menu. Supermarkets like AB Vassilopoulos stock a good range of baby food and formula in the bigger towns, and fresh produce or yogurt from local bakeries make easy toddler snacks.

🛡️Safety

Crete is one of the safer Greek islands for families, with low crime and well-developed tourist infrastructure around the main resort towns. The biggest practical hazard is sun and heat in peak summer, plus uneven pavements in rural villages, so a hat and sun cream are essentials from May onward.

🏥Hospitals

Chania General Hospital and Heraklion's PAGNI hospital are the main referral points, and both regularly treat tourists, though English can be limited outside the main desks. Larger resorts often have a private clinic or on-call doctor who speaks English, which is usually the faster option for minor issues.
