πΌStroller
Stone Town's historic alleyways are completely inaccessible for strollers β they're often too narrow for two people to walk side-by-side. The beach resorts in the north and east of the island are flat and some have good grounds for strollers. A carrier is essential for all village and town exploration.
π½οΈFood & Eating
Fresh seafood, coconut-based curries, and tropical fruit are abundant and toddler-friendly. Resort restaurants cater well to Western families. Food safety requires care β stick to well-regarded restaurants and bottled water throughout.
π‘οΈSafety
Zanzibar is relatively safe by East African standards but medical facilities are very limited. Malaria is present year-round β prophylaxis is essential for all ages including infants. Sea conditions can be rough and riptides exist on some beaches. Medical evacuation to Nairobi or South Africa is the plan for any serious case.
π₯Hospitals
Medical facilities in Zanzibar are very limited by any international standard. The Aga Khan Health Service in Stone Town handles minor cases. For anything serious, evacuation to Nairobi is the expected protocol. Travel insurance with air evacuation is absolutely essential.
