One of the best cities in the world for strollers. Nearly every train station has elevators, pavements are smooth and wide, and staff will guide you to step-free routes without being asked. The only tricky window is weekday rush hour (7:30-9:30am, 5:30-7:30pm), when packed trains make a carrier the better choice.

🍽️Food & Eating

Kids are genuinely welcomed almost everywhere. Family chains like Gusto and Saizeriya have kids' menus, high chairs, and play corners, and convenience stores (7-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart) sell cheap, toddler-friendly meals for emergencies. A handful of small traditional restaurants and izakayas don't cater well to young children, so check ahead for those.

🛡️Safety

Consistently ranked among the safest big cities on earth: violent crime is rare and even young children are often seen travelling independently. Tap water is safe to drink. The main thing to plan around is Japan's earthquake risk; hotels and stations all post evacuation guidance, and minor tremors are common but rarely disruptive.

🏥Hospitals

St. Luke's International Hospital and Tokyo Midtown Clinic both have English-speaking doctors and are used to treating tourists. Pharmacies (drugstores) are everywhere for everyday needs like fever medicine or formula, and pediatric care is high quality, though front-desk English can be limited outside major international clinics.
