Portland is flat, walkable, and stroller-friendly almost everywhere, with wide sidewalks downtown and smooth paved paths through Washington Park and Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Light rail (MAX) and buses are stroller-accessible too.

🍽️Food & Eating

Portland's food cart pods, like those on SW 5th and Alder, are casual and easygoing with kids, and local spots like Slappy Cakes (where kids cook their own pancakes) are genuinely designed for families. Most restaurants have high chairs.

🛡️Safety

Portland is generally safe for families, though downtown and parts of the Old Town/Chinatown area have visible homelessness that can feel uncomfortable; sticking to the Pearl District, Nob Hill, and the eastside neighborhoods avoids most of it. Tap water is safe to drink.

🏥Hospitals

OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital is one of the top pediatric hospitals in the Pacific Northwest. Providence and Legacy Emanuel also have ERs across the city.
