Parent Tips

🚼Pram

Resort properties along the Hip Strip and Rose Hall have smooth, flat grounds well suited to strollers. Downtown Montego Bay's sidewalks are narrower and busier, less comfortable for wheeling a toddler through. Most families base themselves at a resort and use a carrier for off-property excursions like Blue Hole or waterfalls.

🍽️Food & Eating

All-inclusive resorts run dedicated kids' menus and buffets, and jerk chicken (mild versions available) is a fun, low-key local dish to introduce. Scotchies and other casual jerk spots are family-friendly if you ask for kid-mild portions. Bottled water is the safer default outside resorts.

πŸ›‘οΈSafety

Resort areas and organized excursions are generally safe and well set up for tourists, but Jamaica has higher rates of crime outside tourist zones, so avoid wandering unfamiliar areas independently, especially after dark. Strong currents exist at some beaches, so swim where lifeguards are present. Sun and heat are a daily consideration.

πŸ₯Hospitals

Hospiten Montego Bay and Cornwall Regional Hospital serve the area, with Hospiten generally the better option for tourists needing English-speaking private care. Most resorts have an on-call doctor for minor issues. Travel insurance covering medical evacuation is worth having, given limited specialist capacity locally.
