Merida's centro streets are flat and walkable, though sidewalks are narrow in places and can have uneven colonial-era paving. Paseo de Montejo is wide, shaded, and ideal for a stroller. Many cenotes and Mayan sites outside the city involve stairs or unpaved ground, so bring a carrier for day trips.

🍽️Food & Eating

Yucatecan food like cochinita pibil and panuchos is mild and kid-friendly by Mexican standards, and restaurants across the city are relaxed about children. The Sunday street market on Paseo de Montejo is a fun, casual place to graze. Bottled water is standard practice.

🛡️Safety

Merida is consistently ranked the safest city in Mexico (and one of the safest in Latin America), with low crime and a relaxed, family-oriented atmosphere even after dark. The main hazard is heat, temperatures and humidity stay high most of the year, so plan around midday indoor time. Tap water isn't drinkable.

🏥Hospitals

Star Medica and Clinica de Merida both offer modern, English-friendly private care and are well used to expat and tourist patients. Pharmacies are widespread throughout the centro and residential areas. Merida's growing expat community means English is easier to find in healthcare settings than in much of Mexico.
