Parent Tips

🚼Pram

The town centre between the two lakes is flat and easy to navigate on foot, and the Hohematte meadow in the middle of town is a favourite open space for kids to run around. Most of the big-name activities here (paragliding, canyoning, glacier trips) are geared to older kids and adults, so plan gentler lake cruises or the cable cars for toddlers instead.

🍽️Food & Eating

Restaurants along the main Hoheweg strip are very used to tourists and families, with English menus and kids' options widely available. Lakeside cafes at Thunersee and Brienzersee are relaxed spots for a slower meal with young children.

πŸ›‘οΈSafety

Interlaken is a small, safe resort town with minimal crime, though it draws a lot of adventure-sport tourists so the atmosphere is livelier than nearby Swiss villages. Tap water is safe to drink. The lakes and fast-flowing rivers nearby are the main thing to watch closely with toddlers.

πŸ₯Hospitals

Spital Interlaken (part of the FMI Group) is a small regional hospital adequate for common issues, with Inselspital in Bern the nearest major hospital for anything serious, about an hour away. Pharmacies in town can help with everyday needs, and most tourism-facing staff speak good English.
