Florence's historic centre is almost entirely cobblestone, which makes for a genuinely bumpy ride in a standard stroller, so many families switch to a carrier for the Duomo, Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio area. The Boboli Gardens and the newer parts of the city outside the centro storico are easier going.

🍽️Food & Eating

Trattorias throughout the city are used to tourists and children, with pasta, pizza and gelato easy to find everywhere. High chairs are common but not universal, so it's worth asking (seggiolone) when booking. Supermarkets like Coop and Conad stock recognizable baby food brands.

🛡️Safety

Florence is a safe city for families, with petty theft (pickpocketing near major sights) the main practical risk rather than violent crime. Tap water is safe to drink. Summer heat in the tightly packed stone streets can be intense, so plan museum visits for morning or late afternoon.

🏥Hospitals

The Meyer Children's Hospital is a dedicated pediatric hospital and one of Italy's best, a short taxi ride from the centre. Pharmacies (farmacie) are plentiful and pharmacists often speak some English. For adults, Careggi Hospital is the main general facility.
