Parent Tips

🚼Pram

Como town itself and the lakefront path are flat and stroller-friendly, but many of the postcard villages like Bellagio and Varenna are built on steep hillsides with staircases rather than roads. Ferries between towns are the easiest way to get around and are manageable with a folded stroller.

🍽️Food & Eating

Restaurants around the lake range from casual pizzerias to upscale villa dining; family-friendly options with high chairs are easiest to find in Como town and Menaggio. Gelato and simple pasta dishes are available everywhere for fussy toddlers. Supermarkets are well stocked but pricier than elsewhere in Lombardy.

🛡️Safety

Lake Como is a safe, affluent area with low crime. Tap water is safe to drink. The lake's steep, sometimes unfenced shorelines in the smaller villages are worth watching closely with toddlers, as are the narrow, busy roads that wind around the water's edge.

🏥Hospitals

Ospedale Sant'Anna in San Fermo della Battaglia, near Como town, is the main hospital for the area with an emergency department. Smaller towns rely on guardia medica services for non-urgent issues. Pharmacies are present in all the main lakeside towns.
