Duval Street and the historic Old Town are walkable but narrow and uneven in places, and many locals get around by golf cart or bike rather than car. Strollers work fine on the main streets, but expect a slower pace on the older side streets.

Casual, open-air seafood restaurants are everywhere, and conch fritters and fish sandwiches are easy wins even with picky eaters. Tap water is safe to drink, though it's desalinated and has a distinct taste some travelers prefer to avoid by buying bottled water.

Key West is a laid-back, low-crime island, though Duval Street's bar scene gets rowdy at night and is easy to avoid earlier in the day with kids. Hurricane season (June to November) matters more here than almost anywhere else in Florida, so check forecasts closely before booking.

🏥Hospitals

Lower Keys Medical Center provides basic care locally, but for anything serious the nearest major paediatric hospitals are in Miami, roughly a 3.5 to 4 hour drive away, so it's worth knowing this before you travel with a toddler.
